In a brand new series, we’re celebrating the best food and drink in the region and the story of the people who make it. The first stop on our travels is a quaint little bakery nestled in the heart of the Peak District, famous for a centuries-old, top secret pudding recipe.

The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop is one of the only bakeries left in the country that bakes by hand using the traditional overnight method. Its signature bakes have picked up legions of devoted fans all over the world (and a few celebrity ones at that).

Naturally, as a team of ‘cake enthusiasts’ we were excited to visit the bustling town of Bakewell and find out what makes these puddings so irresistible. And okay, maybe we were hoping that the pudding shop’s manager Steven would slip up and sneak a couple of baking secrets our way (GBBO 2018 here we come).

This is what happened when Team Crocstar met the bakers from The Bakewell Pudding Shop.
