Designing for people with dyscalculia or low numeracy

Dyscalculia is a specific and persistent difficulty in understanding numbers which can lead to a range of difficulties with mathematics. It occurs across all ages and abilities and is unrelated to age, level of education and experience.

Our speaker on how to design for this audience is Jane McFadyen, a senior content designer at DWP Digital. Jane works on UK government services designed to help millions of people, including on award winning pre-retirement services and in service design for bereavement and care.

Jane has co-created a cross government collaboration to raise awareness of dyscalculia and provide design guidance with an accessibility poster. Since publication, the guidance has been translated into German, informed updates to the NHS Service Manual, discussed on podcasts and shared worldwide.
